Cleaning A Filter

So i was given a fluval can filter. one of the newer models, (which i must say they have kick up their game abit) it was used in a fresh water tank for a few months, but now i want to use it in 20g nano. I made sure that no copper meds were ran in the tank, but my big question is how should i clean this thing to make it ok for salt water now?? at this moment i've taken out and thrown out all the media and filters, and i have it running in the sink with a mix of hot water and vinegar, thinking of doing that for an hour, then doing the same with just tap water,

what else should i do?
