I am thinking about buying more live rock from a friend. He bought the rock from another guy 2 years ago when the other guy broke his tank down. My friend gave it a freshwater soaking then put it out in the sun and has been outside for the last 2 years on a shelf. I know the rock is no longer live rock but my question is can I put this in my tank without worrying about die-off? Should i dip it in ro water? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

putting LR in feshwater = sudden death of 100% of living things on it due to osmosis shock.

so the rock is full of dead stuff, so yes, you should be really worried about it.

rinse it till no particles come off it, then soak in RO/DI water for weeks to months, replacing the RO/DI Water every other day, till po4 reads zero. then dry, rinse and cure again, should take a couple months or more.

So even though it was washed with ro water and sat out in sun I should be leary? Thanks
