Ok I bought 2 250 metal halides but only intend on keeping clams. I don't have any corals and don't want any I just want clams. With the electrical costs it wouldnjust be too much to run 500w of electricity plus everything else on the tank. If I go to home depot and get a 4ft 40 watt single tube fluorescent for all day lighting since it's fish only and run one metal halide off the side for 6 hours a day right over top of the clam?

Id just go with the Metal Halides and run 20K bulbs and junk the idea of actinic flourescents....that is unless u wish to simulate dawn/dusk cycles with your clam species setup. 20K lamps will give you the specture and close to the look of daylight white lamps supplemented with actinics.

I get that but I'm worried about wattage and running both 250 is just too much I just want like a regular light to light thE tank
