2 cups of salt to 5 gallons of water gets you in the ballpark.

Now, thats a good question. But, heres another. At what SG do you want it at? Thats going to be how much salt you use.

i suspect it will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer but i tend to start out with about .5c/g and tweak from there. check your packaging and see what they recommend. also, don't just find a ratio somewhere (like say, here on the internet) and assume that it's good. use the tools you have at your disposal (you do have a refractometer, right?) to measure the result and adjust accordingly.

Not to be a smarty-pants or anything.....but have you read the bag, bucket or box that the the salt came in? It should say on the package what the approximate ratio should be?

1/2 cup per gallon will get you to 1.024 with Oceanic.
