This weekend I added my first coral. Candy cane. One of the heads looks like it was deteriorating or bleaching, but I think it will come back. The clowns are doing great. They are eating more and more every day and the fire shrimp is looking great. He actually molted last week and I thought he was dead when I came home to see his exoskeleton on the bottom of the tank. But rest assured he is doing just fine. :D

New pics!

Very cool. Those are some very clear pictures. The clowns look so tiny compared to that shrimp! I hope to be in your position soon enough!

Very nice tank. That fire shrimp is very cool. They usually hide a lot so its great he stays out inthe open where you can see him.

I've seen some of your posts before and meant to ask you about your user name and avatar. Rush fan or something else? If so, what is your avatar pic from?

No problem bud!

29g tank: About 35-40lbs of LR, 20lbs of live sand. 1 koralia 750, 1 maxijet 500? (I'll have to look closer at it for sure) Aquatic Life 4x fixture 24watt bulbs. CPR BakPak skimmer.

The shrimp actually does hide most of the time. But he comes out when theres food in the tank, and when the moonlight led's are on.

I am a fan of Georges "Rush" St. Pierre, that is the meaning behind my name. The pic is cropped from an Affliction t-shirt. GSP is the Champ!

Excellent: get a set of tests: calcium, magnesium, and alkalinity. When that coral starts to eat, you'll need supplements for those things, in addition to your water changes. Use a quality salt mix, like Oceanic, or any other that is high in calcium; and when you finally see that little stony coral take off, you'll be putting kalk into your topoff water (easiest way to supplement.) LPS Stonies are fast growers, and that little guy can get to be a much bigger coral rsn. Other lps corals that live with it very well are hammer and frogspawn, both of which have similar requirements, and also grow fast.

Thanks. :D I have tests for Calcium and Alkalinity, but not Mg. I'll have to pick that one up. What's a desired range for Mg? Right now I'm using IO Reef Crystals. I've been told its good for most beginner corals?

I would love some frogspawn. Unfortunately I'll have to wait until it warms up here and order it online. My LFS has a very small selection, and many of the more delicate corals they order don't last long in their tanks which leads me to believe they have high Ammonia/Nitrite or Nitrates. Where can I get Kalk?

Thanks bud. I was sort of disappointed that the frag was so small, but now I really get to see it grow!

Thanks! Yeah, the candy cane has really taken off since I bought it. I have also been feeding it every few days and that really makes a difference IMO.

Some new pics. Just snapped a few though with my phone.

I cleaned up the Zoa frag a bit. I plucked that leather that was growing on the frag. And it had three aiptasia growing right in the center of the frag. When the aiptasia would fully extend the surrounding polyps would close up. I gave them a dose of the X and they were gone the next day. :D
