Hello,
Just purchased a 125 gal. used setup. The previous owner let the coraline grow wild before tear down. Any suggestions for removal of dried coraline? On glass and the two acrylic overflows,.
Thanks for all the great info

Vinegar! Either let it soak in it, or put it in a spray bottle, but that and some elbow grease are the only things that will remove it!

Soak with Vinegar, on the glass scrape with a razor blade, on the acrylic scrape with a old credit card or plastic scraper.

Don't even worry about scrubbing it. Set the tank up in the garage and fill with tap water. Add about 3 gallons of distilled white vinegar and run it with some powerheads for about 24 hours. The tank (and your powerheads) will be absolutely spotless.

yeah 50/50 of water and distilled white vinegar and let it run, it iwll clean ur tank and powerheads. you can use bleach but i dont like to use that.

Lol. So you are suggesting 62.5 Gallons of distilled vinegar. I think the price would be good enough motivation for me to use a little elbow grease! :wildone:

looks like $10 a gallon for vinegar you could almost buy a new tank and stand lol

There is no need for a 50/50 mix. 3 gallons or so in your tank will be fine. I don't know where you guys shop anyway, but distilled white vinegar around here is only $1.98/gal.

I would say the $2 mark is close to what I pay. IME the concentration does not have to be that high. Try what DustinB mentioned and if it does not seem to be peeling away add a couple more gallons of vinegar. Should just fall off or peel away after running with vinegar and flow for a while.

I use a 4 inch paint scraper for glass- has replacable razor blade inserts. Vinegar is obviously good as well- esp for the acrylic. I had to laugh at the 50/50 thing too- good idea for a soaking bucket-but not for a 125!

Seriously, a few gallons in the tank with tap water running a few powerheads, in 24 hours the coraline will be completely gone. The vinegar and the flow will dissolve it, no scraping/peeling/rubbing/etc... needed.
