So, this is probably a stupid question.. But, I don't know electricity very well.. So, I'm going to ask.

I have 2 outlets that my tank is hooked up to, and 2 surge protectors.

plus the controller's 8 outlets are in a surge protector. The two outlets have one jack hooked to a "light switch" to turn power off and on to the jack.

The bottom plug in is always "on".

If a plug in is turned off.. as in no electricity to it through a light switch, will the grounding probe still be grounded in that plug in?

I know it seems a dumb question... I had to ask, because I'm limited on always on outlets to hook stuff to let a lone a grounding probe. ;(

First off do you have a gcfi? It is an absolute requirement for a tank and more so if you elect to use a grounding probe.

I don't use grounding probes but I believe they just tie into the earth ground (third prong). If so the plug being off wouldn't matter.
