Hello all, my coralline Aleta is fading in color and going from deep purple to light purple to white in spots -

Tank has been established for 2 yrs And I have never had anything lokeyhis happen .

H20
Salinity 1.023
Nitrates/Amm/nitrities 0
Phosphates 0
Ca 440
Kh 10
And I dont test for mg but dose twice a week (I know that's bad science to dose something you don't have levels on but dot has a kit)
All my zoas look great, all opening and growing

Only think I have changed is I have added phsogaurd and I have added 100g worth in my 55 bc my phosphates were naming out about .3

Any ideas?

I thought coralline algae grows better when phosphate is lower?

You know, I don't know. But as an algae, I assume it needs some phosphates. The problem is probably more likely due to the rapid change in phosphates.

phosphates at a high level reduce and even prevent calcification of which is a natural thing for this algae. When I first open this I thought you were going to say would a mat of zoas kill off the algae beneath it :).

I don't have any before after kind of pics - all the pics I have are taken to far out and you can't see the rock work very well- also I have a big piece of dragons breath , blood red macro algea that is turning pink in in the center and white on the tips- all my coral looks great in color and it is all opening up

Just remove the PhosGuard and do a partial water change. Keep feeding the fishes and so on... It'll probably come back to normal in a week or two. No worries.
I would stop dosing Mg also. You can use a good salt mix to help the coralline with the Mg instead.

4 48' inch wavepoint - about 4 months old and all the coral looks great - no browning or sad pandas -
