Hey guys,

Been a bit since I really posted anything of any importance. I'm getting things together to upgrade my current (first attempt at saltwater tank) 20gallon tall tank to a 46 gallon bowfront.

New equipment is on the way. Put my orders in on friday, and hope to get the stuff in this week.

Currently, my equipment consists of really poor basic bare minimum stuff. My 20 gallon tank has been running for about 1 year now. All I have running now on the 20 is a HOB trickle filter, a cheap petco powerhead, a 100w submersible aqueon heater, and a standard hood with a single 50/50 coral sun super daylight/actinic 18" bulb.

I have 15lbs of liverock (which was already established from the LFS at the time I had gotten it a year ago) and 20lbs of Carib sea live sand.

I had gotten all of this equipment before I had found these forums and I didn't know squat about saltwater tanks other than mixing salt, and testing and that I needed live rock and live sand.

Even though I have less than adiquate equipment, my lawnmower blennie, coral beauty dwarf angelfish, Oc. Clown, pajama cardinal, and large eye squirrelfish have been happy. I did just recently lost my red banded coral shimp this past week to my super large hermit crab (almost as big as a golf ball). He use to not be huge, but has grown enormous in the past year. He's currently living in a large Turbo Snail shell which he forceably evicted the owner of a few month back. I hate to get rid of him, but he's too big and i fear he will kill any more shrimp I get in the future (which I wil need after moving to larger tank. I will be going with skunk cleaners this time around). so, Jack (the ripper) hermit will be donated to the LFS and I hope he will be adopted to a nice home.

I have the 46gal bow and stand here already and waiting. Got it second hand from a family friend. She had it setup for freshwater and a bazillion goldfish in it. She no longer cared to deal with fish so she gave me the tank.

Here it is currently sitting in my den.

This is a list of the stuff I have on the way:
40# of BRS eco saver dry rock
bottle of Bio-Spira
two Tunze stream 6025's powerheads
Hydor ETH 200watt in-line heater
Coralife digital thermometer
40# of fine Oolite substrate sand
36" 156watt (4x39w) T5 light fixture
two 39watt 10000K T5 bulbs
two 39watt blue actinic T5 bulbs
4 LED lunar moonlight strip
day/night cycle timer power controller.
Tom's Rapids Pro Series RP3 filter system Overflow box, skimmer, and 3.5gallon ATO attachment
Also, had to get a glass hood/cover for the tank since there was no hood and I'm using the T5 light fixture.
and a big tub of Instant Ocean salt mix.

Hope to have more pics and more updates once the stuff gets here.

Sounds good so far. I cant believe you had all those fish in a 20g tank. Five fish in a 20g is way overstocked. They will enjoy their new home. Good luck.

Yes, this new setup will be a drastic improvement over my current 20gal setup. I myself am amazed my fish have done as well as they have with the current setup. I did the best I could with what I had to work with and paid alot of attention to my tank. My fish have put up with the conditions in that tank for almost a year, time to reward thier hardiness and patience with me with a new home.

i just also want to say, the customer service at Bulkreefsupply is just top notch. Very helpful. Told them what type tank I had and generally what I wanted my aquascape to have structure wise and they said they guys who pull the rock would make a good selection of stone to help me get what I want. Just them putting forth the effort to do that for a customer speaks loads. I can't wait to see the rock when it gets here.:spin1:

Blacked out the back of the tank last night with some black cling film. Had debated on painting, but figured if I ever wanted to change to a blue background, cling film would be a simple way to transition.

I'm still waiting on my equipment I ordered to get here, so this was something to do to have some progress. I need to re-clean the inside of the tank with some vinegar and water. Tank has been sitting for a few months unused so it's dusty and just dirty. There seems to be a white dried film deposite around the top edge of the tank (I assume from the water from the previous freshwater residents). I can't seem to get it off with just a damp rag and I'm totally against puting any type of cleaner chemicals anywhere near the tank. Tried to use the razor blade that I used to trim the film edges on the back of the tank on a small spot of the hardened film on the back inside of tank to see if it would scrape off. Needless to say, it didnt come off. I'm not happy about that, but I can't really complain too much, it was a freebie tank and stand.
