Hi Reefers,

I have recently been hearing about dosing for all different kinds of nutrients and elements. I currently only does with brightwell Calcium, Iodine, and Magnesuim. I wanted to hear what everyone is dosing with and why. Also how is it working for you and your tank.

Thanks,
Billybloo

I think the general rule of thumb is to not dose anything you do not test for. It is to my understanding that most people dose calcium, alk, and as needed mag. The remainder of the trace elements are replenished through consistent water changes.

I only dose calcium and alk using BRS 2 part. I figured out the demand of my aquarium and am able to keep them constant right where I want them. I have a continuous water change system and that seems to be be keeping my mag and other trace elements in check.

The basic supplements for a tank with stony corals are calcium, alkalinity, and possibly magnesium. This article might help:

For a new tank, that's really all I'd add.
