Fresh Made Overflow...

Hey all. I just put together a All PVC overflow setup, with a specimen tray.

I found the design online, and since money is kinda tight for me. this fight right into my budget.

However the one thing I didn't think about was how much GPH will this overflow be able to handle.

I have a 55g setup. I have only just created the overflow, no sump as of yet...

All of the pvc used was 3/4". I was planning on getting a 500gph pump for my return. Any suggestion?

how about a pic? i made a diy over the top PVC overfloe, i used 1 1/4" pipe, mine doesnt run a full sipon so its not a huge amount of flow, prob 300-400 GPH. about a 500 GPH pump is prob about right, you can add a valve to throttle it back a little and tune it to the overflow

If you think about it this way, cut it large and it will only dump as much water as the pump is putting out.
