View Full Version : What size pump for Seaswirls?

OK guys, everyone was helpful with helping me pick my lighting. Now, I need some opinions on what size pump. I ordered Two 1" seaswirls for for my 144 half circle tank (dimesions are 59.5" x 30" x 30"). I want to run both seaswirls off of one pump in a closed loop system. This will be my main source of circulation in the tank. I do plan on adding a couple of smaller PH's, but just as supplemental flow. I was thinking the Reeflo snapper gold 2600gph. I will have roughly 4' head space so I should get around 1000gph from each seaswirl using this pump. What are your opinions? Thanks

Max flow for a 1" SS is 1,150GPH so 1000GPH each would be a good safe point to be. But that is still only like 13.8x turnover, not much for a reef tank. I would certainly be looking to add powerheads.

Understood. What do you think I should be shooting for as far as turnover (20x)? The reef will be mixed, but mostly SPS.

For mixed, mainly SPS, I would be much higher; ~45x turnover is what I had in my 65g mixed reef.
