View Full Version : Looking for LED strips for color pop
I have a 90 gal with a 6X 54w ATI Sunpower light fixture. I was looking to add a few LED strip lights for some extra color to my corals. I am not looking for nightlight but something that will add noticeable color pop with my main lights running. I remember there was some Current Power Brites a few years ago that seemed to add some nice color enhancement to existing lighting, but I am not sure if they are still good or if there is something better now. I also saw some Stunner strips by Exotica but not sure if they are any good either.
I know there are alot more people into LEDS now so if you could suggest:idea: something for me that will work that would be great. Thanks.

i am curious if your ati fixture is just hanging or in a canopy of some sort.
the reason i ask is where would you put these strips if the light system is just hanging
freely?
I have a canopy the light sits on the top of it. But it would be very simple to mount a few strips to a hanging fixture also. Well with a few aluminum brackets on the ends. Being a fabricator/welder helps plus the huge machine shop at my disposal.

Coralvu has a color enhacing led that i use, i use it for the blue with my t5s. I have two of the 28 light for my 210 3 would be better but they work great very bright. Only problem is recently one row of the leds went out on both of them...weird. I havent contacted the manufacture yet.

Reefbrite strips have great color pop, but with your fixture it would add a good amount of par also. You could always just grab a few ecoxotic stunner strips, people have been happy with those too.
I was not sure if the Stunner Strips would add the extra color I am hoping for, from what I have read it seems that the main light would overpower them and I would not even be able to see them until dusk or dawn. I am not sure though I thought about the Reefbrite 36" strips as it seems they would do good. I just do not want to waste my money on something that will lose its power in a few months and not even be noticeable.
mrmore are you talking about the MoonVue LEDS? just looked at them and saw the 54 light one. You have Two 28 light ones and see them with the daylights on? or do you just use them for dusk and dawn?

if stunner strips are not powerful enough, look into the panorama modules, also made by Ecoxotic. They are a bit more pricey- $100/module- but are pretty bright.
or just DIY a small strip with however many cree Royal Blue leds you would need.
I do not know if stunned strips would work or not. I am asking for some suggestions on strip light that people have and do like.

I'm also interested if the Stunner Strips would work.

I read a thread before about a person taking out one t5 tube and replacing it with a row of LED's.
There is also this person that completely changed out his t5's from his tek fixture:

I have seen these T-5 tubes with LEDS but not sure if that would work. I think I am going to get a 48" reef brite, that should work for my 90 gallon.

The reefbrite is what I use on my tank --each strip seems to be easily as bright as each T5 tube; maybe even more so. My tank is only 18" deep tho.
