I have a 210 gallon reef tank with softies/LPS/SPS corals. I've been hearing everywhere that I should get a refugium...? What are they for? What size should I get? I've been wanting to set up a 125 or a 180 gallon, could I connect the two tanks and make the smaller one a refugium somehow? Is it worth the trouble?

Depends on what you are trying to achieve. They are not necessary but definitely help.

What are they for?

Nutrient export

What size should I get?

As much available room as you can spare

Yes

Is it worth the trouble?

Once again, depends on what you are trying to achieve

Ive run tanks with them and without them and personally I like them... running about a 8-10g one presently on my 90g.. hoping to have about a 40-50g refugium when I setup my 210 depending on if my euipment will be going in the stand or in a sump room in the garage..
mines integrated into my sump here's a few pics
