I'm preparing to place an order for a new pump for my 34g Solana. This tank is only going to be in place for 6-9 months more before I upgrade to a tank somewhere around 100 gallons. My preference is long shallow tank along a 6 foot wall that I have.

That being said, I would like to upgrade to the Vortech from my tunze 6025; however, I am concerned that an MP10 now would ultimately disappoint when the next tank is installed.

Would the MP40 be overkill?
Would the MP10 be effective if used in the future tank?

And on a side note, I assume the ES is the way to go on both?

Since you plan on upgrading to a bigger tank, the mp40 is the one that makes since.. as the MP10 wont work on the 100 gallon Go with the mp40w es.

mp40 if you're upgrading. You can adjust the power/output of the vortech so run it lower for your 34g and then turn it up on your upgrade. You'll probably need more than one when you upgrade tho. I run 2 tunze and an mp40 at 70% in my 90g.

Ok, thanks for the information. I was very worried that the MP40 wouldn't be able to be turned down low enough as to not have the entire tank turned into a sand storm.

Also, does anyone know if you can run the MP40 on a standard APC battery backup? I utilize one now for my main return and the 6025, and it provides about 45 min of power to these pumps.

Of note: It is not a 'smart' UPS.

This is not really true. My MP10 creates some pretty decent flow on one side of my 6ft 125 gallon tank.

The price difference is substantial. If I can get away with two MP10 units with a single controller, that would save me $190 right now.

Can't run two pumps with a single controller, each one needs it's own controller.

Buy Wireless and you can make one master and the other slave.
