View Full Version : Another repetitive question....

I know there are a million posts on here about R/O filters but I have yet to find one that fully answers any of my questions. I have recently been doing some research :reading: on R/O D/I filters and have yet to find one that I am ready to spend money on. I am on a budget and am looking for one to spend less than $200 on.
My main questions are:
1) Is the coralife pureflo II worth my money?
2) Do I need a pump for the filter ( I have city water with good pressure and am planning on just tapping into that)?
3) If the coralife is not worth my time, what other filters are good?
4) How many stages do I need in the filter?
I have been using my tap water for a while with no serious issues (other than ALGAE!) but I know that it would make a considerable difference in my tank. Thanks for the help! :spin3:

MPDI 90 can't be beat! Spectrapure is the best on the market.

Personally, I wouldn't go with coralife anything. Try spectrapure or Buckeye Field Supply or BRS. You should be able to get a good unit with that budget. Also get a handheld TDS meter if you can. It's helpful to see what the TDS in the various stages of unit.

Spectrapure has the highest standards. Check it out, don't take my word for it.

Unless you have a very large system, this is all you need.

1) Is the coralife pureflo II worth my money?
I can't tell what you are looking at at what price.
I have not been impresed with any of thier products, personally.
2) pump?
No not needed.
3) see link, also see post re other reputable sources.
The brand name is not so important. You need a seller that will back up the product should something go wrong.
you need the follwing:
stage 1 - a prefilter to keep the carbon block from fouling with sediment
stage 2 - a carbon block - basically the more you pay here the more carbon block you get. This removes the chlorine. This protects RO membrane. Skimp here and your RO unit will die sooner when the carbon block is exhausted. The better carbon blocks will last many years.
stage 3 - A qualtiy RO membrane. In genreal, the higher the rejection rating, the better water it will make.
stage 4 - DI resin. You need one mixed bed cartridge or one anion cartridge. Over time you'll find what works best for you. You can easily add a second resin filter housing later. You don't necessarily need it right away.
A TDS meter, portable or built in, is a must.
You may PM me or post questions and I will try to help you.

+1
Love my optima from purely H2O (4 stage). Run off a T at the washing machine with no pressure pump.

Check this system out from bulk reef supply. I am going to order it, maybe add the "plus" version.
