hi i was just wondering what the difference is between an arcadia mh lamp costing £300 and a metal halide spot lamp on ebay costing £25 if i replaced the bulb with an aquarium mh bulb in costing £40.

The reflectors have a big factor on how well the light is used. If you can afford it get a better reflector so you dont end up being disappointed and just end up spending more money by replacing them down the road. Do you want to get a fixture or do you plan on using pendants?

sorry if this sounds silly but whats the difference between pendants and fictures. I want to hang it from the ceiling so i would say pendant.

i want to keep seahorses and i have a 15g hex tank which is not wide but rather tall. this would be interconnected to my 40g main tank and a 12g sump. atm i have a 250w mh lamp over the 40g and really like it but not sure what would be suitable. trouble with conventional bulbs are the length as its not very wide about 35cm.

Well a fixture might have T-5's or something built in for actinics. For pendants look at lumen max ones. That way you can have some lights higher than each other, like for that 15G one.
