The 3 inch shell was completely empty and there were many gelatinous blobs floating around in the tank. The clam seemed fine this morning? Anyway, I'm worried about the rest of the tank since I didn't find any of the clams flesh to remove. I have a 55 gallon reef tank. What should I do? I have water made to do a change but how much should I do?

clams are just notorious for looking beautiful one day, then waking up and they're dead as a doornail. the blobs are floating around b/c something has been nibbling on it and it came off the shell. I would siphon as much of the blobs as you can. i would do, if it were my tank, atleast 15gallon water change if you can.

you have a new tank?
anything been picking on it?
what are water parameters?
what kind of lights you have?
you move it around any?
what are your fish inhabitants?

+1 on the scapes questions. what crabs do you have?
generally scavengers don't eat a healthy or live clam. it pretty much neeeeds to be dead. so the derasa died or was attacked by a non-scavenger

I agree, sounds like something was picking at it.
Sorry for your loss. Sudden deaths are so frustrating.
