Hi all, I have an Oceanic 144 half circle I'm setting up as an SPS dominated reef. I'm in the process of buying all the equipment and I'm going with Tunze pumps for supplemental circulation. I'm going to buy two of the controllable tunze 6105's and run them both off a controller. How controllable are they? If I feel I'm getting too much flow can they be dialed back (example: run them full time at 1,000gph and have them ramp up to 2,000gph) or do they have to run at full capacity? Thanks

They can run between 30-100% and anywhere inbetween-but they need a controller that can ramp them up and down like the Tunze 7095, 7096, Neptune Apex or Profilux. If you are not using a controller like that, you can set them at a set speed using a potentionmeter on the power supply, but they will not ramp up and down.

Some controllers, like Apex, can be given set times and even ramp up over a certain time(one minute minimum). Profilux can control the Tunze at a constant variable rate between 30-100% I believe.

to add.... They also have a vlotage chip, 12v and 18v. You can use the 12v, which reduces the maximum flow of the pump, and use 30-100% of that as well. I am not sure the max flow you get out of the 12v jumper( the 18v would be the 3,500 gph).....probably in the 2,000 gph area max flow. You can also use the 6205 impeller covers to give you a much wider flow if the flow is too narrow and powerful...I use them on my 120.

Great information, thanks. I also like the idea of using the 6205 impellar covers for a wider flow. These can be purchased separately?

Yes, any dealer can order them, or you can order directly off Tunze.com. The part number is 6205.130

Without them, I was getting sand blown everywhere, especially in the corners. They allow me to run the pumps at full speed with no problems.
