View Full Version : Pump/sump bulkhead question

I just purchased the Dart Hybrid pump for my 215 gal build. The pump has a
2" intake and 1.5" discharge. Need opinions on the bulk head size coming out of my sump.....should I drill it for a 2" bulkhead or reduce it to 1"? My tank has two 1" drains and two 3/4" returns. I will also be placing a union ball valve between the sump and pump for making adjustments and/or servicing the pump so obviously this decision effects the size of the valve as well. What do you think?
thanks,
Frank

Frank, I would not reduce it the pump may cavitate.

I wouldn't restrict the flow going into the pump at all, stick with a 2" bulkhead and valve the output.

Okay....I guess the consensus is the 2" bulkhead and I will reduce the discharge to the two 3/4" returns.

I'm going to be different and say go with a 2" bulkhead to feed the pump ;)

I thought that was a possibility but wasn't sure......
Hey by the way....when installing durso kits is there anything special I need to do with the bulkheads and the durso connection? Last time I did this was over 3 years ago and I remember that when testing the sump level for a power outage the water from the durso resovoir kept emptying even after the water level was below the teeth....I did something wrong and was told how to correct it but I can't remember what it was. I seem to recollect that at first I tried lining the bottom of the durso pipe with teflon tape and was told that this does nothing....maybe it was lining everything with silicone? Any thoughts?????

Frank, I bought custom dursos direct. They came with teflon tape on bottom which were made to fit slip bulkheads.
I don't see any way for the overflow to empty past durso intake in overfow?

Only if the pipe into the bulkhead leaks.
