Do 175/250/400w bulbs all have the same size socket?

I found a great deal on a lighting fixture but it is advertised as 400w SE. Is there a difference in the size of the sockets? I know the bulb length is different. I am wondering if I could put 250's or 175's in there. I know I would need different ballasts but I am ok with that.

Socket yes, length is different as you mentioned. Unless the fixture has an adjustable socket moving the bulb more inwards or outwards, then it is built for a specific bulb. For example, the LumenMax2 can move the bulb in or out about 1.5" dependent on 175-250-400.

I do believe the socket moves. It is a sfiligoi Infinity XR4 2x400w, but 400w is way overkill..
