My 40B is just about 2 years old now and and I'm not entirely sure I want to keep a reef tank anymore and am leaning more towards an species (clown/anemone) tank. I really love my corals and I have had what I would call pretty good success keeping LPS and SPS (have a few zoas too). Even though I don't really have a lot of corals, the ones I have are now a decent size making it more difficult to give them up (at least most of them) so the nem/nems have room, right flow, etc.

The idea to change came from a really nice seahorse species tank I recently saw. The tranquility and only have one primary focus in the tank was very appealing to me. There were a couple of corals in the tank but clearly not the focus.

I completely understand that nems need pristine water and stability and don't envision that being a problem unless I all the sudden decide to get lazy. I have only done a little searching but I have not really found much info on element consumption and what I is conflicting. I wouldn't think consumption would be nearly as high as some decent size LPS and SPS. Is that a correct assumption?

Does anyone else ever have the urge to change things up or do most just buy a second tank? :)
