Has anyone been able to figure out why raising mag levels with Tech-M affects bryopsis as opposed to other mag suplimentation methods?

No;speculation is the Tech M includes an impurity that is toxic to bryopsis. Personally, I'm skeptical.

My Bryopsis was gone after raising Mag to 2000 with other products, like Red Sea. So it's probably different kinds of the algae that this trick works on.

I've used the Tech-m trick a few times and it works at alittle above 1500. Raising mag to 2000 seems too dangerous for me.

Well I have read someone upped to 2200 and no ill effects. I only lost one snail.

Since different folks may raise magnesium with different additives that have different impurities, and may start from different levels of both magnesium and those other impurities, and since the toxicity may come from something other than magnesium, and these different tanks may have other differences that impact certain toxicities (like organic levels possibly mitigating heavy metal toxicity) one needs to be careful about extrapolating what levels are OK and what levels are not, even from direct experiences. :)

How's that for a one sentence explanation. :D

Thanks for chiming in Randy. that is why I don't feel safe pushing mag above 1500, I've had success with the Tech-m cure at around 1450. So there is no reason to go any higher anyway. So I guess that the accepted theory is indeed a toxic impurity?

I dosed Tech-M and my elegance bleached as a result (the bryopsis died too)

I cut out the Tech-M and did a massive WC and the elegance is coming back (as is the bryopsis :()

It's a theory that fits most of the evidence I've seen, but other explanations might be the true explanation (but I do not know what they might be). :)

That theory woud proov Kent to be worst of all ;-) Most "dirty" product.
