I am in the market to purchase a new 36 x 18 x 24 rimless starphire tank and since it was one of their standard tanks I decided to give Glass Cages a call to ask about the glass size they would use and they said 3/8"
All other companies stop at 20" height with 1/2 Starphire, am I missing something or does this sound OK?

It's just a much lower safety factor. I suppose if the tank was low flow and you didn't plan to plumb into it or anything it might be ok... probably an anticipated waterline 2"+ below the edge.
Glasscages is a custom place though, ask them for a quote for those dims built with the 1/2" and I'm sure they'll come up with something for you.

Hey Nick,
I was planning on putting the Glass Holes overflow and return on that tank too, Bad idea?
(2) 1-1/2 bulkheads and (1) 3/4 bulkhead on the back glass

I just called them again to see how much it was to bump up to 1/2" and they corrected themselves and said it comes with 1/2" glass, whew...
So a 70g 36 x 18 x 24 3-side Starphire for $505 shipped... Not bad.
Hopefully it comes out as good as my 50g they built :)

I was gonna say, my 36x37x18 glass cages tank is 1/2" glass.
Doing great 2 months now, I must say :) built like a bulldozer
