View Full Version : This interceptor must be no good?

Back in 2007 I was able to get my hands on about 2000 gallons worth of just the active ingredient in interceptor from a pet pharmacy.

I have been using it sparingly over the years in preventative dips. Never actually needed to do a whole tank.

Today I noticed a few redbugs on a new acquisition in my qt tank and figured I might as well blast the tank.

I probably used enough for well over 100 gallons maybe more like 200 or 300. My qt is 10 gallons.

After about two hours now I see a few of the RB's seemingly dead but what has me a little curious is that these guys

are crawling around like nothing happened.

the interceptor has been in a zip lock bag and opened up many many times in the last few years.

I did have to nuke my first sps tank many years ago with some of the pill form and i remember within seconds seeing dead pods floating everywhere.

I may be answering my own question but do you think i need to get some new stuff?

I am not sure about the main ingredient itself, but from what I have read about interceptor it is affected greatly by prolonged exposure to light and air (hence the packaging). I have also heard of a number of vets stating that it was ok to use up to 6 months after product expiration.

I know it's not a red bug.

It's a pod that i assumed would also be decimated by the treatment. Perhaps I am wrong?

That's what I figured.

I confess I kind of felt like the interceptor king there for a while there but deep down I knew it was eventually going to get thrown out.

thanks

if you dont see RB i would still use them IMO, my pods always seem to live thru all treatment and pills were not expired

I'll play it safe and just get some new stuff.

Another good example of a full time quarantine tank preventing a headache.
it's so easy to handle problems like this in a small qt tank. It's almost fun

glad they wont ever make it to my DT!
