I have identified the pest macro growing all over my display live rock as a dwarf species of Caulerpa called Caulerpa Nummularia. It has rapidly grown over the last several months since my Foxface jumped out of the tank :(

I have a new Foxface that does not seem to be helping with it. The stems/roots are intertwining in zoanthid polyps (irritating them and preventing opening), around frogspawn branches etc and really becoming a problem. Are there any natural eaters of this stuff??

Am I doomed in trying to manually remove it? ( seems like a tough chore as it grows soooo close to the live rock and is rooted well).

Thanks for any help you can provide. It is frustrating:rolleye1:

Manual removal is about your only help. It's what I'm having to do.

I use it Caulerpa in my sump. I was going to get cheato but the LFS was all out. It's doing a good job absorbing nitrates, and my Yellow tang seems to enjoy picking at it.

I take it you don't have any tangs in your tank?

I have a Hippo tang and a Kole tang. The Kole is not designed for it and Hippo ignores it. I am maxed out with Tangs. I guess some elbow grease is in order. Hopefully the Fox will help control it from there. Thanks for the input.

Foxface is about the only recourse: the stuff is toxic. Of course, so are rabbits---possibly from their diet!

do you think pulling it out/breaking it in the process is harmful? I run carbon but do you think the caulerpa will release anything into the water I should he concerned about?

Unfortunately, this is true and is why I advise NEVER introducing Caulerpa. :uzi:

Unfortunately my problem was accidentally introduced. :rolleye1:
