View Full Version : LED Spectrum questions

I have a standard 90 gallon with a mix of coral and some fish. I have 2 of the Maxspect G2-160 fixtures sitting on rails on top of the tank. I am trying to get a better color combination going and recently replaced a couple of blue with red and a couple of whites with cyan leds. I don't like the color, in fact the stock color is better. The reds make a spotlight effect as well as some of the greens. The fixture is setup stock like this
18 dusk dawn (mix of blues and UV-A violets)
14 white (semi led whites)
4 moonlights
2 daylight (30 watt whites)

I don't know a whole lot about the spectrum colors of LEDs and the more I read the more confused I have been getting.

What I want is the dusk/dawn to be very actinic and make the corals flouresce. The daylight whites to make the aquarium get whiter but not white washed. The 30 watt whites are super bright and that function is fine for the high noon daylight.

Should I take some of the 14 whites and replace them with blues?
What blues are the best for flourescing the corals?
I have attached a list showing what LEDs are available for this fixture.
Thanks in advance for the help.

You can take a look at my thread for some ideas:

This is my 160w bulb layout, "Extreme" style.
Note there's a typo in this chart, it's 405nm violet not 503nm, 503nm is cyan.
