does the time of day I run my lights matter as long as it is the proper length of time?

I have my tank in my bedroom that gets little to no sunlight and I keep weird hours.

I get up at 10 AM 3 days a week for class and go to bed at 2AM.
The other 4 days I may get up as late as 2 or 3 PM but stay up until 5 or 6 AM

because of this my timer becomes an issue.

for a reef I want to run my lights around 10 hours a day... correct?
I have thought it out and if I run them for 10 hours a day then 3PM to 1 AM would be a perfect schedule. (keep in mind the sun does not reach this room)

can I run my lights from 3PM until 1 AM?

you can run your lights at anytime you want to fit your schedual. I work nights from 6pm - 6:30am so I have my lights running from 1pm-8pm. your fish and corals won't care

Yes, as long as no outside source is affecting it the, timer is basically controlling their world. Set it how you want it. If you're a 3rd shifter and want it on from 11pm to 7am that's fine too. Just maintain a healthy schedule is all.

Mine on other hand, gets a single beam of light about 9:30am that wakes the tank up. So good call on mentioning no sunlight in the room.

Sounds fine dude. Mine are on 12:00-9:30 mon-fri, 11:30-9:45 sat and sun. I usually keep the blindes down...once in a while up to add + mix spectrum.
