View Full Version : LED lights color loss on LPS

I'm sure it's been posted somewhere on RC. I just can't find it.

I have first gen. AI LEDs. I've had them for a few years. I've made a few mistakes by overblasting the lighting. I currently run them at 42% white and 100% blue. I like the color balance.

Now, on to the problem. As long as I have had LEDs I lose red color in LPS9Acans, Micromussa,Blastos. That would include orange and pink colors. They all turn green, yellow, and some blue. But not vibrant blues. I keep thinking that there must be a spectrum missing. Any Help?

While I do not have much sps in the tank they do OK. Red Planet in particular does well. Nice color.

All corals grow nicely as well.

Yes you are losing color spectrum. Older fixtures only used white and blue which caused washout situations.

So, Do I upgrade to Sol blues for the right spectrum?

I think u r lossing the red spectrum which is present in the whiter colored light that's why I love t5 u could just add a pink or purple bulb then u won't loss the blue u like

People are using red, violet and green now to get the colors they lost along with neutral white
