Why can't you drill the glass?
Can you have somebody do it for you?
It would make you life much easier.

If you decide not to drill, contact Jeff at Lifereef.com. His workmanship is superior. Great customer service. It absolutely will not break siphon. I turn off my return pump weekly for water changes and it just starts right up again. Be careful with any overflow that requires a pump to restart a siphon.

These look really nice but they scare me. I'm thinkin about using one on my 20 but worried about a flood.

Always, always, always drill whenever possible, respectfully IMO.
The overflow is one of the greatest points of failure, and I personally would never again own an hang on type overflow no matter the claim of the manufacture. I have flooded, and switched, and switched and eventually I wanted a new tank mostly because I hated the overflow situation. Good luck with your choice, but I would suggest finding a professional to do it for you.

I have had one of these running for over 15 years and never had a single issue: http://www.marinedepot.com/CPR_CS102_Overflow_Box_External_Overflow_Boxes_for_Aquariums-CPR-CR1511-FIOFEB-CR1517-vi.html

I run the CPR on my 40 breeder, never an issue, just gotta keep your aqualifter clean...

Exactly. This is easy, just run vinegar through it once a month and clean the port with a pipe cleaner. 5 minutes total.
I was running mine before aqualifters existed. I just put a check valve on with about 4 feet of airline and I would just suck the air out myself every day or two. Never had a single problem.
