I am considering an external pump for my return pump.

I want to suspend the pump above my non-drilled sump on a swing-like stand I would use a flexible plumbing just before and after the pump, then PVC the rest of the way, to cut down on vibration.

My question can you have the external pump above your sump and run the intake down say 20" into the bottom of the return section of your sump?

Will there be a problem with priming the pump for safe start-up?

Will there be problems after a power outage if that is an issue?

Thanks, new to external pumps, but want to minimize heat transfer.

Interesting idea!

Simply slapping a “standard” pump above the tank will not work.

You either need to find a self-priming pump….and none come to mind from the typical ones we use OR, put a check valve between the pump and the sump. Once primed, the check valve will maintain water within the pump when it is turned off…..until it fails…and it will.

Drill the sump!
