Can you remove or paint over the oak trim color on a tank? If so, what do you use to remove it or what kind of paint can you use?

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't try to remove it. Just paint it.

I removed the faux wood paint on my 75 gallon two years. I used 600 grit wet sand paper and then bought some plastic polish and used a buffing wheel with a drill attachment to polish the plastic. Looks fine and you would never know unless i told you that i did it. However it is alot of work and i would never do it again.

You can probably lightly sand it then paint it with Krylon fusion

+1.
Light sanding does the trick. However I read the MSDS sheets on Krylon Fusion which is used extensively in this hobby. There are a ton of VOC's (volatile organic compounds). What does that mean? It means that they can leach into your system and cause havoc. I typically will go to Lowe's or Dunn Edwards and buy Low to 0 VOC paints and use a sponge to apply it. Just my .02.

You can remove it using paint remover. Acetone, Xylol and the such. I've done it that way. It more or less just rubs off.

This kind of nugget of info make me want to start a 101 handy aquarium-DIY related things you didn't know thread.

I used some regular Krylon or Rustoleum, don't remember which, to paint my trim to match the color I painted my stand and canopy and it worked fine. I wiped it with some laquer thinner first and it's held up well. If I remeber correctly I did that so I could have a satin finish and all Fusion was gloss.

If they make Fusion in the color and finish you want, I'd suggest using it since you are painting plastic. The VOCs in any of the spraypaints will not affect your system as long as you give them time to cure completely.
