I just switched from a pump style to a constant mixing stirer type. Will I have completely empty the reactor and refill or are these more efficiant in mixing the kalk. Thanks for the info.

I rinse mine out once every few months. Other then that I just add more as needed.

I have an MRC with pump, I like the built in timer but I have also been thinking of switching to an aquamedic stirrer, I would also like to hear some input as to what I should do as well.

What I noticed with the pump style was the kalk would become real thick so I wasn't sure if the same thing would happen with stirer or not.

any "experts" want to comment ? for a smaller system jam packed with corals, med-low evap rate whats going to do a better job keeping the water in the reactor saturated at all times?

The stir type works great. The slurry won't thicken.

Will cycling the motor on and off mess it up?

Nope its fine to cycle it. I have the aquamedic version. I have yet to find one I like better.

I have an avast marine one and they recommend running the stirrer 24/7 and I have noticed if it is off for too long, the kalk will thicken and no longer stir.

Dont mean to thread jack, but I'm in the same situation and have just a quick question. Hope this is helpful to the OP as well.
I got my ATO setup to the reservoir which feeds RO/DI to the Kalk Stirrer; Reservoir is 30g...how many tsp's of kalkwasser should I put into the kalk stirrer???

Check your owner's manual, you can usually pack quite a bit of kalk in there, way more than a few teaspoons. I have a pump type Nilsen reactor, and the last time I cleaned and filled it I added at least a cup and a half of kalk to the thing.
