Hi all, new to SW, but been into FW for 4+ years now and have 25 tanks up and running. Turned 1, about to be 2, into Salt in one of my racks in the fishroom.

I have a 40 breeder on the bottom shelf converted and settling in. I am about to set up a 20 long on the top shelf, about 5 feet above it. I want to plumb the two together. What I'm thinking is, pump water up to the 20 long and have it gravity feed back to the 40L. Each has a 1 inch bulkhead in it.

I'd like to get an external variable speed pump that I can throttle back to 300-600 gph for this purpose, but could throttle up to full around 1200-1500. This way I could use the same pump to drive a refugium or another tank in the future if I wanted to tie it in. Would be great to have an auto stop feature if it detected dry (fail off).

Might be dreaming, or it might be too much $$ (would like to spend less than $200 US on a pump like that) but I had to throw it out there.

Any thoughts on that idea?
