On my 29g with a goby, 1 clownfish (Other one disappeared?), anemone, emerald, and a bunch more cuc, I have a Penguin 170, and a Taam nano filter (Hey, it was cheap).. I'm thinking if the price is right maybe I should ditch those two and grab a Marineland Emperor 400 or some such? I don't like the 170 because #1, the flow seems like a trickle, and 2, I can only use their cartridges..

I'd like to get some good flow in there (I mean, I have 2 power heads, but a nice filter flow).

Any other recommendations? I was going to go with a Eheim 2213 or some such, but decided it wasn't worth it.

how about a protein skimmer and more rocks instead of the hob filter?

+1 on the Protein skimmer and/or live rock.

A much better investment.

Well I have live rock.. I just like the idea of a filter.. And a protein skimmer I'm not sure about on a 29 gallon? But I would like the option of using carbon, mechanical, etc.
