Well, Russ was able to help a lot and rule out some problems but I still can't connect to my apex from outside my network. We couldn't figure out the problem except for maybe its my modem/router. So before I try to change my router through Verizon I thought I would post some screen shots to see if someone sees any "red flags".

Note: I can connect to my apex within my home network but not from an outside computer. When I type in my dyndns.org site I get re-directed to my router page instead of my apex page.

It's probably because of the port number. I've read that a lot of routers block port 80. It's best to use anything else. Like 801 even. Then when you type in your DynDNS address from a computer outside your home network make sure you add ":801" to the very end of the address.

Port 80 is not blocked by his ISP. We tried 2 nonstandard ports as well. Even DMZ mode did not work. I've successfully set up port forwarding in that router model several times.

Can you try resetting the Apex and trying again?

The reason I mention this is that I've observed that the Apex does not refresh its lease on the DHCP and any rules based on the hostname will fail after the lease expires in 24 or 48 hours. Its unclear from the middle table above whether the rule is referring to the name or address (I can't see the column headers). The first table looks right in referring to address rather than name.

Can't hurt to try.

I'm not randomly telling you to reset, I'm trying to make sure the DHCP lease gets renewed.

I tried resetting the apex and nothing. Router too. I have 4 LAN connections in the back and one WAN connection available. Currently the Apex is plugged into 1 of the LAN connections. Should it be plugged into the WAN one?

Another idea. Do I need to enable the PPPoE relay? I have no clue as to anything network related so I am just shooting blind. I don't want to do anything though until I get answers to the questions...

Last resort, reset router to factory defaults.

Again, not just a random thought... I've had some devices insert a bunch of port forwarding rules without my knowledge using some network protocol that I forget the acronym for. Network, Management, Device, Blah, Blah.

Some PC on my network inserted a ton of forwarding rules that screwed up my Apex.

You could get half way to a factory reset by just removing any rules you don't recognize.

edit - it was
Universal Plug and Play

Universal Plug and Play provides the ability for the router to have new UPnP supported devices connected without having to reconfigure or reboot the router

Unfortunately I did that already too. I wish I could figure this out. It's been almost a week with no luck.

On another note: I wanted to get access outside my network before hooking it up to my tank. I didn't want to wait any longer so I just hooked it all up with my old DC8 as well so I could control 16 outlets. This thing is amazing. I am absolutely loving it (minus the network thing...lol).

Unfortunately I did that already too. But did the offending network device request a new set of port forwarding rules? I'd clear out all rules except for the one for the Apex. Well, maybe the QIP ones too since they are the Verizon set top boxes. Are there any in the list other than the Apex and QIPs?

I am just really suspicion when port forwarding rules show up on my router without me knowing about it.

Does anyone know if I could buy another router to replace my current Verizon one? Is the Verizon router necessary because of fios services or is it interchangable with other routers?

Unfortunately, you are stuck with a Westel or Actiontec router provided by VZ.

Try using your actual public IP address

http://127.0.0.1:8080 or what ever it is.

whatismyip.com

Could be that dyndns is getting the wrong public IP
