Will coraline algae grow in low light?

Yes. Actually mine seems to do better in shaded areas.

once it takes off it will grow everywhere.

In my tank the coraline always blooms right about the time I need to change bulbs.

Yes, they do. Red and the dark pink variety seem to prefer shaded areas, like under my rocks and outcroppings, as well as low on the glass. The light pink, yellow, and green/blue ones seem to prefer more light, as they grown high up on my walls and on the rock surfaces directly facing up to the light.
