I have one sol blue over a 34g solana. The tank is 20x20x20 and I have the light 9" above the water line. Most of my corals are sps with some lps toward the bottom. Many have suggested changing the optics to 70 degree to reduce hot spots and avoid bleaching. I have the 70 degree optics to change them out, but I am interested to hear others opinions before I make the change.

I would swap them. It will give you better spread as well as reduce some par which is not needed on such a shallow tank.

Tagging along. I get my 2 sol AI blues this week. My tank is 36x30x24.

Ok, that's one for change.

I think you are fine with standard optics. With a tank only 20" wide, you don't need that much more spread...

I was not so much concerned about spread, but penetration and focused intensity of the 40 degree optics in the middle of the tank. I am still using your chart for timers and things seem ok so far.
