View Full Version : Should I worry about my pH 7.5-7.7

From day one my pH has been on the lower side ranging from 7.55 low to 7.79 high readings throughout the day. This seems to be on the lower side of recommendations but my fish seem active and eat well.

The home is newer and I understand that can lead to higher levels of CO2 which in turn leads to lower pH and running my skimmer air line outside is not an option (not to the wife anyway).

I am looking at a couple of options for ATO and could add Kalk to help raise the pH, but I currently use the blue bucket and my Calcium levels are pretty high (500+ via test kit) with nothing in the tank really using the Ca yet. And I need to pick up a Mg test.

Otherwise the paramiters seem to be in the normal range. NH4 0, NO2 0, N03 0 (but dealing with cyno atm so not a good reading), Ca 500, dKH 8.3, Salinity 35 and Temp 79.5.

I just changed the lighting (2x54 watt t5 unit) to 10 hours a day, and will be going with a DYI LED build in the next few months but think an ATO needs to come first (and a sharp stick to keep my wife out of my dyi budget with her new camera).

All that to ask again, should I worry about my low pH or ride it out for a bit?

Thanks,

Increased flow will raise o2 levels. You could raise your dkh as well.
