That came along with a zoa/paly colony I just bought. I'm hoping it's just some kind of sponge, but want to know what it is I'm putting into my tank and that it's not going to be a nuisance. Please and thank you.

It's the white things growing out around them. The tentically looking things. (Yeah...I said tentically, can't thing of another way to describe it.

looks like sponge. Just break it off.

Yeah. I ripped a bunch of them off. I left a few, if they keep growing I may throw some in my fuge.

I have those all throughout my rocks and under corals. They're harmless. If they get too invasive looking just tear them off and toss the chunks in your sump. Exposure to air may kill the chunks, but it's worth a shot. I'd be willing to be they're already in the darker areas of your tank

Just keep a watchful eye on the sponge. They are good but they can overgrow the base of the polyps and drown them out. Also sponges do contain toxins and if they envelop the zoas they can chemically kill them.
