So I really want to go with Jager heaters for my new 90 gallon set up, but I can only fit a max 14" heater in my sump which means two 150 watt heaters because the 200 watt heaters are 16" and wont fit. Will 300 watt be enough for a 90 gallon DT with a 30 gallon sump?

Or do I go with something like the Hydor Theo or Fluval, thoses are small?

Help:spin3:

You may be able to fit it in one of your baffles at a 45 deg angle instead of straight verticle....thats what I did to fit the 250 watt in my sump for my 90.

Here is a pick of my sump when I was installing it. You can see the heater to the left at 45 deg angle to keep submerged.

Still may not work with a 16" heater. I may just go with two 150W and see what happens.

I think 300w will only do the trick if your room never gets particularly cool. I have two 300w heaters (1 Eheim Jager, 1 Finnex), and, believe it or not, I was having trouble keeping the tank up to temp when my room got down to 67 degrees. I do have tons of flow and an open stand, though.

Also, if one of the 150w heaters dies, what will happen to your temp?

I had the same problem, I angled my eboJ heater. I'm using a 200watter on a 120g w/ a 30g sump. I have no issues. I've seen people undersize their heaters for their tanks, especially if you're using a quality heater like an eboJ. Good luck

I live in Buffalo, I would need at least two.

FWIW, I have 2x250 and 1x200 in my 90g, staggered at .1 degree apart on my Apex.
Our house is usually 68 in the winter, and if it ever goes down to under about 66 then all three have to run. Back before I added the last (200w) to it, it got to 65 once and they could not keep up... woke up to a 72 degree tank.

maybe look into a titanium water heater?

i had several jagers and switched to catalina titanium heaters(300,500w) and couldnt be happier. the LFS's around my area sells them and a few guys local guys to me use them.

titaniums are much shorter and you dont have to worry about them cracking.

Jager heaters all the way, you can also run 2 small ones instead of 1 big one.
