Refugium start up

I have a 150G reef tank I'll be plumbing for start up this week. I have a reeflife refugium and was wondering about when to put the sand, rock and algae in it. Should I wait for the tank to cycle, or start it up from the get go. I will be starting this tank off with dead rock from BRS, but still haven't determined what sand to use.

you need to cycle the tank for a while before you add the refugium.
