Awesome corals, avoid handling them! Very demanding coral to care for, good thing they didn't cost you anything. I know they like baby brine shrimp so start hatching and check out this website asap

I have read the green ones are easier to keep. I've had a red one for about 4 months now and it is doing very well. I dont feed it anything special and I do have it towards teh top of my tank in an area with medium flow.

thanks... I just ordered some food for him! They are truely beautiful corals that indeed do puff up quite a bit! I love how it's the size of a golfball at night and then when the lights come on it's the size of a softball. Your placement in your tank is great for the coral as well. I used a 2 liter bottle and cut the bottom half off and used it to target feed the coral just to make sure it was fed correctly

a bottle would be too small when he is puffed up!

I think it is an alveopora but my eyes are not what they used to be. alveopora has 12 tentacles/polyps and goniopora has 24.

I counted 18 to 20 per polyp

It will either be 12 or 24. Always. Alveopora are easier to keep, but still demanding. It is quite rare for goniopora to last more than a year in captivity. They tend to waste away. There are anecdotal reports of them lasting longer, and people having success with dosing various things, but I do wish that people would leave them in the ocean.
