Here is what it looks like. Hopefully I won't have to slice it

Fine sand piled up on it's base and I wasn't around for a few days to aid:(

Looks fine to me. Those things are almost impossible to kill anyway.

All the time it was buried it was plotting and planning on how to make your life miserable. Get it out of your tank while you have a chance. Those things are like weeds and indestructable. Your tank will be covered with them before you know it.

They do multiply fast. I bought a 1.5 inch frag for ten bucks now I have close to twenty of all different sizes in both tanks. Some are several inches high. They do make good fillers for empty space. Just keep an eye on them.

Do you think the base is rotting?

Doesn't look like the base is rotting to me just discolored from being hurried in the Sand it will be fine that was my first coral in my tank now I just use it to export nutrient in my refugium along with Xenia

Yeah... they really are tough to kill. I ripped one out by hand, scraped the rock with my fingernails for a while, trying to get it all off, and it still grew back!

If you don't want it to get out of control, prune them regularly, because they will drop branches without you noticing and then they will be everywhere.
