Hello, I've seen so much conflicting info on the numbers with this salt. What do you folks say are the numbers we should get at 1.021, 1.023 and 1.025 sg.
at say 78 degrees.

For Ca., Mg., Alk., and ph Honest,please.

Thank you.

Yes, how much of this per gallon do you need to reach 1.025?

Hi pmrossetti,
Let's put things in order first, converting S.G. and temp. to salinity in ppt.
At 78 deg., salinity will be as follows:
1.021---> ~30.0 ppt
1.023---> ~33.0 ppt
1.025---> ~35.0 ppt

For each salinity the levels of Foundation Elements will be as follows:
Salinity---> Alk(mEq)| Ca(ppm)| Mg(ppm)
30.0 ppt---> 4.0-4.2 | 400-420 | 1185-1245
33.0 ppt---> 4.2-4.3 | 430-450 | 1280-1340
35.0 ppt---> 4.4-4.5 | 455-475 | 1360-1420

*The parameters are based on salt mix of at least 2.5 gal.
**in order to convert Alk from mEq to dKH just multiply by 2.8.
2.8*mEq=dKH

pH depends on a few variables and on average will be around 8.2-8.4.
It might be higher at the beginning of the mixing process and stabilize with time.

1.025 @78deg. ---> ~35.0ppt
You will need to dissolve about 38.2 gram of Red sea Coral-Pro in 1Liter of RO water.
OR
5.1 oz per 1 gal. of RO.

Hope I helped.

All the Best,
Aviad.

I've finally found the right salt for my needs.
Numbers on the bucket are dead on..

I was wondering how I might be able to do this without weighing the salt. Approximately how much salt in cups would I need to get 35ppt per gallon or per 5 gallons?

I know my other salts have been 1/2 cup per gallon. I don't have anything to weigh to salt with so how would I measure it?

Thanks,
-AC

Hi AC,
You can try the same 1/2 a cup per gallon, and correct it if needed.
You go through trial and error once and once you get it right you'll be fine.
Always check the salinity before using new water.

Hope I helped.
All the best,
Aviad.

if you are trying to grow coralline algae there is no better salt, it will grow like a weed if you have the proper lighting
