im fighting green hair algae at the moment,i was wondering if there is any benefit in running a bigger amount of GFO and GAC than usually recomended in most cases.thanks in advance for any information

The extra GFO might help. If you're running a reasonable amount of GAC, then I suspect that adding more won't help as much as the GFO might.

Also, be careful using large amts of GFO, it also binds carbonates and can lower alk, as well as drop PO4 quick, sometimes too quick for zoox in corals. :)

For clarity gfo use may lead to enhanced precipitation of calcium carbonate but gfo doesn't actually bind(adsorb) carbonates.

GFO may reduce alk :

through increased biotic and abiotic precipitation of calcium carbonate in the system as PO4 which inhibits such precipitation is removed;

to a very small extent as the PO4 removed is part of the alkalinity;

sometimes more precipitation of calcium carbonate occurs in and around the gfo surfaces where localized ph may be higher due to hydroxide displacement by PO4 on the gfo.
