Do you have a kit available for a Biocube 29. Want to up grade my lights.
Or do you have a pre-made list of what I should order?

We don't have one right now (we used to have one, and we were in the process of developing a newer/cheaper one but got side tracked by some other projects so we'll have it again I just don't know exactly when) but basically you'll want up to 20 LEDs (only if you have SPS), the 5.9" x 9" heatsink, a couple of drivers, and no lenses if you're putting that in your stock hood. I have the same set-up in my personal tank and it's plenty of light, I'm using 10 XP-G Cool Whites and 10 XR-E Royal Blue's and that's about a 12k.. I'd prefer if I had a little more blue, but that's just a personal preference.

I know you have stated that you would put another one on your web site.
Could you Email me a list of everything I need, or maybe suggest one of your retrofit kits I can start with.
I think a list of everything I need and instructions would help, if your new kit will not be out soon.
Sorry never worked with LED's berfore.
Thanks

If you want to order now off the site this is what I'd get:
10 x XP-E Royal Blue: http://www.rapidled.com/servlet/the-124/CREE-XP-dsh-E-Royal-Blue/Detail
10 x XP-G Cool White: http://www.rapidled.com/servlet/the-52/CREE-XP-dsh-G-R5-Cool/Detail
1 x LPC-35-700: http://www.rapidled.com/servlet/the-3/driver-700ma-48v-drivers/Detail
1 x LPC-60-1050: http://www.rapidled.com/servlet/the-51/Mean-Well-LPC-dsh-60-dsh-1050-constant/Detail
2 x Power Cord: http://www.rapidled.com/servlet/the-47/3-dsh-Prong-Power-Cord/Detail
4 x Wire Nuts: http://www.rapidled.com/servlet/the-48/Wire-Connectors-fdsh-Nuts/Detail
5.9" x 9" heatsink: http://www.rapidled.com/servlet/the-72/5.9%22-x-9%22-Aluminum/Detail
1 x Arctic Alumina: http://www.rapidled.com/servlet/the-11/Arctic-Alumina-Thermal-Adhesive/Detail
Here are some general instructions on how to hook up the LEDs, but you will need to find a way to drill that heatsink so you can screw it directly into the posts that are in your hood: http://www.vinnymarini.com/pictures/rapid_docs/LED%20DIY%20Oveview.pdf
Let me know if you have any other questions.

this is the kind of list i am looking for with the biocube 14, but does he need some sort of controller/ knob thing as well? haha man i am ready to order mine already!!! i cant wait!

No he won't because he isn't getting dimmable drivers.

Why do I need 2 different drivers, each one should run half the LED's correct? Also I would like dimmable drivers, which ones would I need. I saw your potentiometer with the control for blue and white. I would like that, anything else I would need.
What is the difference between the XP-E and XR-E royal blues.

The XP-G LEDs can handle up to 1.5A, so typically we recommend the 1050mA driver because you'll get more out of your LEDs that way (you can also under-drive them at 700mA, but you might as well go up to 1050mA).
If you want dimmable drivers with the dimming kit then you'll need the ELN-60-48D.
The XP-E outputs about 20% more luminous flux when compared to the XR-E, but we don't have an 80 degree lens available for the XP-E (yet). Other than that they are pretty similar.

So a dimmable "kit" can be pieced together on your site at present time, but you're just not offering it as a package? It seems that if drilling the heat sink to fit my hood is the only thing that needs customizing, why should I wait for the "kit" you're working on? What are the improvements going to be when the kit is released? We spoke on the phone a few days ago and your time frame will hopefully work with my schedule for adding livestock to my new BC29, just want to tag along on this thread, and also find out what the improvements will be on the new kit. Thanks!!!

Marty, basically the only thing you're getting in our kit is a pre-drilled heatsink that can be screwed directly into your hood. If you can do that on your end then there's really no point in waiting on us to do it. Everything else that comes with our kit will be pieced together from our site anyways, so the heatsink would be the only missing piece.
What's the ideal spacing for the LEDs? If you're running 20 LEDs on a 5.9" x 9" heatsink, I'm guessing you placed 4 rows of 5 LEDs about 2" apart center-to-center (a little less front to back). If you ran 24 LEDs would you need an 11" long heat sink, or could you squeeze more on the 9"? Is there a minimum distance the LEDs should be kept apart for heat dissipation or other reasons?

You can run up to 24 LEDs on a 5.9" x 9" heatsink (when we have those in stock that's what we drill them for, 4 rows of 6). There's no actual minimum distance you need to keep the LEDs apart but make sure you're cooling the heatsink as much as possible as they can get pretty hot, which will ruin the lifespan of the LED.

does 5.9"x9" give enough spread through out the tank? or would it be berrer to run 2 heatsinks spead apart?
any luck on that kit?

Without lenses the 5.9" x 9" heatsink is fine for spread. The kit will be up later today!

Great job on the kit...now to decide if I want the controller or the 2 color dimming kit!!! why do you give me these choices!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I placed my order today! I just went with the BC29 kit and the 2 color dimming kit. I didnt want to have to figure out the controller and i like to run the blues by themselves sometimes. Im excited to get building!
