In most of my marine aquariums be it reef or fish only, my Kh seems to consistently drop. What actually causes this drop? I've been boosting 2-3 times per week and using a drip system on a couple of aquariums but still struggle to keep a dkh of 9.:headwally: What is the best way to stabilize this level? Any advice?

I use R.o. water with tropic marin salt. Kh buffer brand blue life.

Mostly growing coral like SPS and LPS. Coraline algae will also use it up in smaller amounts. Ph and alk also just tend to drop off due to natural processes in the tank. Make sure your test kit is ready correctly also. I keep my ca and alk stable by dosing kalk.

When nitrate is increasing, that too can drop alkalinity due to the processes involved.

Awsome guide! Do you buff using kalkwasser and kh buffer or just the kalk?
I tried using just kalk for a couple weeks but the Kh still droped-0 nitrates. Maybe I should just keep making stronger batches of kalk for my drip system.(i have been making weaker batches)
What do the people recommend? My montiporas are growing wild but my acroporas are hurting.

I use only limewater for calcium and alkalinity in my system, but in heavy SPS tanks, one may need more than you can provide with limewater alone, so a two part in addition to the limewater is a fine plan. :)

I am going to give the kalkwasser another shot. I will just kick up the strength. Before to ease into it I made it kinda light. We'll see how she goes!:uzi:

It works really good when its mixed with your ato system water. it will work and keeps things stable, add 1 or 2 teaspoons per gallon and have it as your ato water so its dosing all day.
