This Blastomussa Merletti was purchased May 4th and the areas surrounding the green centers were a nice rich brown until a few days ago. If you look carefully you can see a whitish tinge like white thin lines on some of the brown areas. The second photo shows where in the tank it is positioned so surly it isn't too close to the lights. We have two Deep Blue Actinic lights that are on in the photo and two day lights that are on 6 hours a day, with moons at night. There is also a Green Centered Polyp all the way to the right whose petals are not as rich as they used to be but look great under the blues. This was purchased 4/29. What could be happening? The Calcium looks good (altho' the test I bought is pretty terrible because it is too hard to distinguish when the blue fades to clear compared to the control (Tropic Marin kit), the Mg looks good, I supplement with Coral-Vite about once a week which has Ca, Mg, Strontium iron etc. What could be happening. Is this bleaching or something else. Tank is a few months old and currently has no fish.

Also can anyone recommend a good Ca/Mg testing kit. This kit is ridiculous, you can't read the syringe because the rubber O-ring is the same color as the measuring marks on the syringe and the color change is too subtle. As of yet I have no way to measure phosphates.

That Blasto doesn't look bad imo. Corals colors can and will will change when moved from one tank to another (purchased at the lfs or from a fellow reefer). Unless you see drastic changes, I wouldn't be too worried. You can also look online for other photos of the same color to see the different variations.

As far as test kits, I recommend Salifert. The are a little more $, and a little more complicated to use at first, but I am more than happy with the results I get from them. (after using them a few times, you get it down, and it takes minutes to do your testing after that).
