I bought a used Custom Built 225gal on craigslist, and it didn't come with a hood. So, I need to find a company/website that can get me three tops each 22 3/4" wide and 22 1/2" deep. Any recommendations? :D

Glass top is usually a bad idea. They trap heat and prevent gas exchange. If it just need to be covered, get some light diffuser (egg-crate) and cut it to fit.

I agree: but I like the plastic netting better, it seems to allow less light distortion than egg-crate, IME. (BRS has a video of an easy DIY top)

Hmm, I had't thought of that. This tank will eventually/hopefully have an eel in the future, so I just want something that will keep him in.

an eel is one of those special cases where a very close fitting top is mandatory. however, you can get that done with netting and avoid the heat/gas exchange issues. search for diy screen tops here for some ideas.

eggcrate with 1/4 squares if you can find it.

i agree with some of the above posts. netting would be better.

I've been looking at a few threads, but does anyone have a specific one they think is best?

So how much open area should you have? I have a 120g that I was going to put acrylic tops on to help with the water evaporation, but hadn't thought about the heat or air exchange issue. If I covered the tank and left the 50g sump open would that be OK or should I just leave them all open? Good I read this early, maybe I can return the two pieces of acrylic I bought today.

They also have a video with instructions. Very easy, even for a mechanical idiot like me.
